[랭크5=고현 기자] After landing in Phuket a few years back, Christophe Vandijck had a plan of staying only for one year but is now going into his fourth year on the island.

Hailing from Belgium with an extensive background in judo, Vandijck has added to his skill set throughout the years and competed in various martial arts ranging from boxing to submission grappling.

The last few years have been an unstable period in his mixed martial arts career but he has not let it affect his development and positive mentality.

Even though he has nothing set in stone for his next move in MMA, Vandijck will be in Singapore this weekend to see if he can go back-to-back at 2019 ADCC Singapore.

In this interview, John Hyon Ko of Kumite TV caught up with Belgium judo master Christophe “Hulk” Vandijck to talk about his upcoming return to ADCC Singapore after winning it all in 2018, his life in Phuket training at Tiger Muay Thai, the reasoning behind his absence from MMA competition, and more.

Notable excerpts from the interview:

John Hyon Ko: "Why have you stayed so long away from MMA competition?"

Christophe Vandijck: "I don't want to stay away. It's just really hard to find fights because my record is 8-4. It is not a really big record but I am dangerous for everyone. So every time I am going to fight, it is going to be a hard fight. People, now, what they want is to build a record. To go into bigger organizations which I understand but I always say fighters we need to fight so last year I had four fights canceled."

John Hyon Ko: "I noticed you did some boxing last year. How did you like that? Have you been boxing for a long time?"

Christophe Vandijck: "No, No. I didn't fight for a long time. So I was like you need to put yourself out of your comfort zone and try to compete in whatever you can. And stand up is out of my comfort zone."

John Hyon Ko: "What expectations do you have [for ADCC Singapore] because you're the man everyone will be chasing after?"

Christophe Vandijck: "That is completely different from last year because that was my first time. Now, everyone's going to be looking at me. But it's okay, you know. It's grappling. I take it for fun. It's learning. Whatever happens, it's going to be fun. So let's go for it and see what happens."
